Please recall in February when the Phoenix Coyotes, looking for a way to boost attendance on Valentine's Day against the Washington Capitals, partnered with a local jeweler to give away 3,000 cubic ziconia diamonds to women attending the game -- with one lucky lady winning an actual diamond valued at $5,000.
So who won the rock?
Attendance for the game was 13,856, and we don't know how many ladies were in the stands for the 3-2 Coyotes victory. But we do know that the woman who owned the winning ticket number failed to ever claim her diamond prize.
We followed up with Jason Ganem of Ganem Jewelers, who sponsored the promotion, to see what happens now that there's an unclaimed diamond out there.
"The winning number did not come into the store during the promotion time.
"However we saved the cards from all the ladies who stopped by and we decided to pick a winner from that group. We picked the winning person on Tuesday.
"We have arranged with the Coyotes to give the diamond away this Friday at fan appreciation night. We have already contacted the winner and have tickets for her to attend the game.
"Nancyfrom our Scottsdale office will be at the game with the lucky winner and will be presenting the diamond to her live during the game."
The Coyotes will be giving away a ton of prizes on Friday for Fan Appreciation Night, like free laser eye treatment and a trip to the NHL Awards in Las Vegas, as they wrap up the regular season with a home and home against the San Jose Sharks.
If the lucky lady has a boyfriend/husband, how soon after she receives the diamond will he begin bartering with the Coyotes to try and swap it for season tickets?
