Well, OK, you don't have to use them responsibly. But you should at least use them.
Below, you'll find a list of Thursday's most-dropped players. The name at the very top (Billy Wagner) is an obvious cut, presumably an accident of pre-ranking. But 14 of the next 15 players on the list are currently DL-eligible. STOP DROPPING THEM. Use your DL spots. Most of you have them, and in many cases they're presently empty. Think of those DL slots as an extension of your bench -- and you wouldn't deliberately leave bench spots open, right? Of course not.
Check the names...
Clearly a few of these guys will have zero value in public-style mixed leagues this season (Adam Wainwright and Jon Garland, for example). But there are also a couple dozen saves on that list. David Aardsma is certainly not a drop, not now. That dude just threw a 25-pitch bullpen session, and Seattle's interim closer (Brandon League) is not a credible threat. And Brandon Morrow is only expected to miss one start, so don't cut him loose.
We're all eager to make a few transactions now that the games have started, but c'mon. Let's not give away assets while DL positions go unused.
